Opening The Door To Midlife
It was pretty clear that in 2016, when I turned 49, got a dog, and hired a mindset coach, I was preparing myself to open the door to what Midlife asks of us: be your true self and better the world.
What did midlife look, feel and sound like for me then?
It looked like wrinkles, graying hair and readers at the end of my nose. It felt like unfulfillment, unease and urgency mixed with hot flashes, and it sounded like a broken record voicing questions with no answers or direction.
So with my coping dog, mindset homework and 49 years of life experience, I opened the door to midlife and what did I find on the other side; the most challenging, enlightening, disciplined, creative and fulfilling nine years all thanks to, what ended up being the most powerful tool I discovered along way, the ability to articulate my authenticity and purpose.
What will my next stage of life look, feel, and sound like now that my coping dog is gone, pages and pages of self-directed reading and homework complete, and I am alone on the other side of midlife with only myself and my purpose?
It looks like more wrinkles, grayer hair and stronger readers at the end of my nose. It feels fulfilled, easier and infinite with the hope of disappearing hot flashes, and it sounds like a voice with a clear direction to the answers I need to move forward the way life intended, as my true self doing my best to make the world a better place.
It has taken me nine years since I opened the door to midlife to fully understand authenticity and purpose and how to use them as a tool to feel the vibrancy that exists in myself for a better world. What I hope for you is that, whether through a course I teach, a workshop I facilitate, a talk I give, a newsletter or blog post I write or a collage I create, you have more time in midlife authentically leading us with purpose to a better world.
