Good Morning House… Jan 7/19

Why are you here?…Well you were built in 1844 and you were originally called Coldblow. Your first custodian was George M. Boswell. This was his home, he chose the spot because of the view of the lake. And the harbour and beach but it was thought you were vulnerable to the winds blowing off the lake which is where your name came from. There is a picture of you on the 1930’s and there are barely any trees in front of you. What you must have been able to see then and the weather you must have felt on your face must have been incredible! You were exposed! I can’t imagine what it must feel now being covered by the growth, you are almost being swallowed up by Mother Nature.

Also from the picture you were surrounded by grass, no parking lot or other buildings, you are so open and free!

I wonder if you long for these days? I would love to hear the stories of your first owner and those who followed, James Calcutt and Julia Sowden Calcutt, their son James III and his wife Gloria White. Then Louis Horning a professor at Victoria College and then finally Ben Lloyd who made you into the motel and of course your current owner John and Sharon, Heather and Caroline.

I would have loved to have been around you when it was just you and the trees, wind, sun and all the other beautiful things Mother Nature surrounded you with.

So you are here to give shelter to those who inhabit you. To bring them close to the elements yet keep them warm and safe. You were built for the view despite the naysayers that thought it would be too cold.

I wish I could take you back to that time but we must always look ahead - the view is still there I promise, we just need to help you see it again so you can do what you were originally built for… why you are here.

Until tomorrow, Love, Me
